Our program is unique in its interdisciplinary emphasis, residing within the Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences, instead of within traditional academic departments. Our faculty are drawn from 23 academic departments representing five schools & colleges.
Our students perform research in a broad range of areas, including scientific computing, uncertainty quantification, machine learning, numerical analysis, optimization, visualization, computational medicine, computational geosciences, computational materials, computational life sciences, computational physical sciences, computational engineering, plus many more.
Work with renowned facultyin computational science, engineering and mathematics.
The Oden Institute pioneered the field of computational science and engineering, and our faculty are renowned for their contributions to the field. Our program is ranked #1 in the worldby CWUR.
Through research and coursework, our students have the opportunity to work closely with the Texas Advanced Computing Center, the nation’s leading academic supercomputing center, as well as the Oden Institute's on-site large computing systems and a state-of-the-art visualization lab.
Our interdisciplinary institute is rich in intellectual diversity. We are passionate about creating an inclusive community that promotes and values diversity on all fronts—our people, our perspectives, our ideas.
We seek outstanding students who desire expertise in multiple disciplines and are willing to take on new challenges by working alongside faculty involved in research at the forefront of computational science. CSEM doctoral students complete advanced coursework in applied mathematics, computer science, and in the fields representing the application area.
The CSEM Master’s program is a 2-year program that provides students with a solid introduction to computational science, engineering, and mathematics. Options for earning the Master’s degree include: Thesis option; Report option; No Thesis/No Report option.
