Charlott Low

Administrative Assistant Oden Institute

Biography

Charlott Low joined the Oden Institute in 1998 as administrative support for Professor J. Tinsley Oden, for whom the Institute is named.  She previously supported Professor Ivo Babuska and Professor Greg Rodin. What she enjoys most about the Institute is the diversity of its faculty and staff, its wide range of interdisciplinary research, and its inclusivity.

Although she began UT Austin as a mathematics major, Low graduated with a B.A. in Psychology and English. And, in addition to Spanish and Chinese, she studied information science at the UT Library School.  Other UT work experience includes being Head of the Interlibrary Loan unit at the Perry-Castañeda Library and providing administrative support at UT Purchasing and at the Frank Erwin Center.

Her non-UT experience has included supervising the reconciliation unit of the Internal Revenue Service balancing checks & returns totaling an average of $4 million per night, and being a licensed massage therapist/instructor and the administrative director of a state-approved training school for licensed Swedish massage.  At the massage school, Low had a private practice, taught the full state curriculum, and designed & taught short-courses for CEU's (e.g. craniosacral system therapy, reiki, aromatherapy, reflexology, trance work).
