Biography

Prior to moving to Austin, Rudy obtained Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the Eindhoven University of Technology (the Netherlands) working in the Mechanics of Materials group of Professor Marc Geers. In the summer of 2015 he started working under the supervision of Professor John Dolbow at Duke University on the computational simulation of pervasive fracture and failure and the development of scale-bridging approaches based on state-of-the-art extended/generalized finite element (XFEM/GFEM) techniques. He received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science from Duke University in March, 2020.

Rudy is interested in the broad area of computational science and engineering with a strong focus on computational mechanics, model order reduction and scientific machine learning. As such, his research is interdisciplinary, both with respect to computational-science domains and real-world engineering applications. Ongoing and past research has been on the development of high-performance computational models and methods in simulation-driven engineering for coupled problems of multiscale nature.
