Biography

Eirik Valseth is a research associate in the Computational Hydraulics Group. Eirik received his B.Sc., in mechanical engineering at Østfold University College in Fredrikstad, Norway in 2013, a M.S. in mechanical engineering at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in 2015, and a Ph.D., also in mechanical engineering, from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in 2019.

Eirik's Ph.D., research focused on the development of unconditionally stable finite element methods and their implementation for a broad range of physical applications.

As a research associate in the CHG group, Eirik is currently developing new finite element methods to increase the state of the art prediction capabilities in hurricane storm surge modeling. His research interests are in the development and analysis of finite element methods, including error estimation, adaptivity and their application to challenging physical applications. Physical applications of particular interest are hurricane storm surge modeling, mineral separation processes, wave propagation phenomena, nearly incompressible elasticity, and singular perturbation problems.
